We haven't yet entered into the "irrational exuberance" we saw back in the 1990s; for now, we fully expect the Santa Claus Rally and January Effect to push the markets higher, forecasts Richard Schmidt, editor of Stellar Stock Alert.
During the market in the late 1990s, we saw companies with little revenue, but lots of promise, making huge inroads on the market. Today, it's just the opposite.
The companies getting rewarded are the companies that are producing. Companies that don't produce don't get rewarded by today's market. That's very bullish.
Meanwhile, the overall rally in Chinese stocks is paying off, with more room to grow. iShares FTSE/Xinhua China (FXI), which corresponds to the FTSE China 25 index, showed great strength mid-month, with a 10% jump in a matter of days.
The move indicates our push toward Chinese stocks is paying off, as this sector continues to improve. The overall rally in Chinese stocks is paying off, with more room to grow. FXI is a buy.

Constellation Brands earnings
Beer and spirits company Constellation Brands (NYSE: STZ ) reported results this morning for the quarter ended May 31. Although the company "missed" with earnings per share of $0.38 (ex-items) against a consensus estimate, investors appear to be shrugging it off. That may have something to do with the fact that the company raised its guidance slightly for 2014 to $2.60-$2.90 from $2.55-$2.85 (although it should be mentioned that this increase has nothing to do with operational improvements or an improved sales forecast, but rather with lower expected interest expense). - [By Monica Gerson]

Huh? What?
I know. That hardly seems to make sense, does it? Oshkosh simply crushed analyst earnings estimates for the quarter, delivering $0.97 per share in profit where only $0.86 were forecast. It added a dime to its full-year forecast as well, predicting that earnings could rise as high as $3.15 by year-end. First-half operating profit margins, at 5.8%, still fall far short of rival armored-vehicle makers Textron (NYSE: TXT ) and General Dynamics (NYSE: GD ) . But Oshkosh is now neck-and-neck with heavy-equipment maker Terex (NYSE: TEX ) , and is simply smoking unprofitable rival MRAP maker Navistar (NYSE: NAV ) .
